The school was formerly known as the Braybrook South or Braybrook Junction.

Miss E. I. Epsie conducting a private school at Braybrook Junction when she petitioned to have a state school established in the area in 1890.

The first school opened in Hampshire Road on the corner of Morris St site in 1891. The head teacher was Mr. Thomas Flynn.

Due to the attendance at the school nearly doubling the school, later in the same year, the school was transferred the Braybrook Public Hall on the north - east corner of Hampshire Road & Benjamin Street.

During 1891 & 1892 a search for a permanent site was conducted. In 1892 a new rented site was selected in Derby Rd. The school relocated to this site on the 30th September 1892 where two portable buildings that were joined together by a porch.

In 1894, saw the amalgamation of the two Braybrook Schools 1102 & 3113. Mr. Thomas Flynn was put in charge of both schools.

During 1901 & 1902, a petition was conducted to separate the schools. In July 1903, saw the end of the amalgamation. Miss C. O'Donohue became the acting head teacher of the 3113 school.

Once again in 1904 the school experienced severe overcrowding. In 1905 the Education Department purchased the rented school site and the adjoining land. It then built an additional wooden school room.

In 1907, saw the official renaming of the school to "Sunshine"

In 1909, the school was once again at capacity and arrangements were made to lease the Mechanics Institute Hall. William Roach was the new head teacher.

In 1911, the overcrowding was solved by adding three new wooden classrooms.

In 1912, 90 cypress trees and 80 gum & Peppercorn trees were planted on the school grounds.

A swimming pool was built on the school grounds in 1914 -1915.

Further classrooms were supplied to reduce the overcrowding during 1919.

in 1921, the Education Department purchased the former Braybrook Junction Post Office site on the corner of Hampshire Road and Derby Road. The following year the whole school site was fenced off to keep out wandering cattle.

The school continued to struggle with the overcrowding and was forced to hire the St. Marks Church Hall.

In 1928, a campaign commenced for a new building.

In 1930, saw the school buildings being condemned by the Shire's Medical Health Officer, Dr. Adamson.

A new building facing Hampshire Rd was approved by the Education Department. This building was located on the former site of Sunshine's first post office which was being occupied by the caretaker of the Technical School.

In 1931, the new building was opened .

In 1936, the acting head teacher, Mr. H. T. Betteson planted 50 flowering gum trees, 45 roses and 36 shrubs.

During 1954 & 1955, other new schools opened in the Sunshine district and some pupils transferred to them.

In 1966, the school appoints its first librarian.
