Named after a school teacher at Sunshine North Technical School and Sunshine West resident Cr. John "Jack" William Castley. He was the Mayor of the City of Sunshine for three terms 1954, 1955 & 1966.

The Sunshine Heights Junior Soccer Club is it's current sporting tenant.

The original Castley Hall in the north - east of the reserve has been replaced with a modern brick hall called the "Glengala Hall" and this is the home of West Sunshine Multicultural Senior Citizens. This hall is also the starting location of the Glengala Walk.
